About the VAC

The Variety Artists Club of New Zealand is the premier association for entertainers and performing Artists in New Zealand.  Although based in Auckland we are proud to have a membership spanning across New Zealand and the world. The club hosts a regular social event on the first Monday of every month except January held at the Birkenhead RSA, Recreation Drive, Birkenhead Auckland (from December 2023).  Through the presentation of our monthly VAC ENTERTAINMENT SHOWCASE, these nights provide a forum for the club to fulfil its primary objectives to foster the spirit of goodwill amongst members and the public, and to assist artists to develop higher performance standards.  These nights generally run from approximately 5pm until 10pm, with the entertainment presented between 7 to 9.30pm.

The highest honour bestowed by the Variety Artists Club each year is the Benny Award, which is presented annually for a lifetime of excellence in the entertainment industry.  Previous recipients of the Benny read like a who’s who of New Zealand entertainment and include many icons of entertainment and household names. The highlight of our normal yearly calendar is the annual Benny Awards.  This is a black-tie event featuring performances by legends of New Zealand entertainment and the presentation of the Benny Award and our Other VAC Awards (prestigious industry awards).

New members of the VAC are most welcome. Membership is open to those with a connection to the entertainment industry – performers, musicians, actors, writers, agents, those involved with the technical aspects of production etc. For Membership enquiries, visit our VAC Membership page.
